Applied Behaviour Anaylsis Supports

What is Applied Behaviour Analysis?Applied Behaviour 2

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a field of study that examines the relationship between the environment and behaviour. It is a scientific, data-driven approach and the most widely used treatment methodology that has been empirically verified as effective for supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Additionally, ABA is also recognized as an effective method for addressing target behaviours and teaching new skills for individuals of all ages and abilities.

Applied Behaviour Analysis at Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board:

The HPCDSB has fully embraced the Ministry of Education’s directive to incorporate methods of ABA into programming for students with Autism as well as for any students requiring additional behaviour and skill-building supports.

There are two ABA Leads who offer individual and broad based training, consultations, positive behaviour supports and resource development to educators. The main focus of these supports are:

    • Preventing problematic behaviour
    • Providing structure and routine
    • Building on skills already achieved
    • Providing motivation for continued learning
    • Achieving independence
    • Generalization of learned skills and behaviours
    • Transition planning
